Happy Autumnal Season! I don’t know about you, but I love this time of year. The glorious colours, acorns crunching underfoot, early morning mists, nights drawing in, the smell of woodsmoke and damp earth. It makes me want to go for long, chilly walks then to hunker down by a roaring fire with a hot cup of tea and an excellent book. The reality is that I’m either at my desk or at the gym (still doing rehab for my knee!) now that I no longer have a dog to go walking with. We sadly lost our beloved Border Terrier, Bonnie, back in April, and so my walks now are dog-less, which doesn't feel quite right. However, the reason I’m at my desk so much is that I am writing a new book that will be out in early 2027. I have a deadline of 15th February 2026 to deliver it to my editor, which feels frighteningly soon. Each time I start a new book, it feels like I’ve forgotten how to write, but I just have to trust the process and hope it will turn out okay in the end! Whilst I am still at the early stages of writing (I’ve written the first third), I’ve been doing lots of research, which involves not only on-line, but lots of reading, some digging into archives, visiting museums and travelling to some interesting locations. I will be able to share more about this in the next newsletter. For now, I am excited about the upcoming publication of Book of Forbidden Words, which will be out on 17th February in the US and Canada and 26th February in the UK. I have now received the physical proofs of the book which is always a thrill!
